Frequently asked questions
How does the tool know the file type?
It reads the first bytes of the decoded data (the "magic number") and compares them with known file signatures. A MIME type in a data URI is used as a fallback.
Can I decode very large files?
Yes, files of hundreds of megabytes can be decoded, limited only by your browser's memory.
The type is shown as application/octet-stream. What now?
The format has no known signature. If you know the original type, type the correct extension into the file name field and download it.
